Your privacy

Privacy Policy

How Community Music Australia collects, uses and protects your personal information.

Community Music Australia (“we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy and handling personal information responsibly, in accordance with applicable Australian privacy laws.

Information we collect

We collect personal information when you:

  • contact us through our website or by email;
  • subscribe to updates, newsletters or other communications;
  • participate in research, surveys or consultations;
  • engage with us as a member, partner, volunteer or stakeholder; or
  • provide information about a community music organisation or ensemble.

Depending on the activity, this information may include your name, organisation, position, contact details and correspondence.

Through the National Community Music Survey and other research activities, we may also collect information about community music organisations and ensembles, including their activities, membership, participation, finances, facilities, equipment, volunteers and challenges.

Some organisational information may be associated with identifiable organisations or individuals, particularly where contact details or other identifying information are provided.

How we use your information

We collect and use information to:

  • respond to enquiries and communicate with you;
  • provide updates and information you have requested;
  • conduct research and analyse the needs of Australia’s community music sector;
  • prepare reports, including the State of Community Music in Australia;
  • support advocacy, policy development and future initiatives;
  • develop and maintain a directory of community music organisations and ensembles, where permission has been given;
  • manage our organisational activities; and
  • improve our website and services.

We use personal information for the purposes for which it was collected, for related purposes permitted by law, or with your consent.

Research, surveys and publication

Community Music Australia conducts research to better understand the scale, activities, contributions and needs of the Australian community music sector.

The principal findings of the National Community Music Survey will be made publicly available through the State of Community Music in Australia report. Survey findings may also be published in presentations, submissions and other communications.

Community Music Australia may provide more detailed aggregated, de-identified research findings and tailored statistical analyses to external organisations, including industry partners, researchers, government agencies and commercial organisations, on a paid or licensed basis. Revenue generated through these activities will support Community Music Australia’s research, advocacy and other activities.

Individual survey responses, personal information and identifiable organisational information will not be sold or disclosed for commercial research purposes.

Financial information will be reported in aggregate and will not be published or shared in a way that identifies individual organisations.

We will take reasonable steps to minimise the risk of individuals or organisations being identified through published or shared research findings, including where sample sizes are small or information could be combined to identify a respondent.

Organisation and ensemble details will only be included in a public directory where the respondent has expressly agreed to their inclusion. Only information authorised for publication will be included.

Contact details provided for survey follow-up, future research or Community Music Australia updates will be used for the purposes selected by the respondent.

Disclosure of information

We do not sell personal information.

We may share information with service providers who assist us with website hosting, surveys, research, communications and other organisational activities.

We use Alchemer to administer the National Community Music Survey. Information submitted through the survey is processed using Alchemer’s services.

We may also disclose information where required or authorised by law, or with the consent of the person concerned.

Storage and security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information against misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification and disclosure.

Information may be held in electronic systems operated by Community Music Australia or by service providers acting on our behalf.

Some service providers may process or store information outside Australia. Where applicable, we take reasonable steps to address the privacy and security risks associated with these arrangements.

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, including legitimate research and organisational purposes, or as required by law. Information that is no longer required will be securely deleted or de-identified where appropriate.
