Community Music Australia has joined APRA AMCOS and organisations from across the Australian music community in signing an open letter to the Australian Government about artificial intelligence and copyright.
Community music exists because people create music. Every community choir, brass band, orchestra and ensemble relies on the work of composers, arrangers, educators and publishers whose creativity enriches our communities every day.
Those creators deserve to decide how their work is used. AI companies should not be able to train their systems on copyrighted music, educational resources and other creative works without permission and fair payment. Innovation should never come at the expense of the people whose creativity makes it possible.
Community Music Australia stands with Australia’s creators in supporting a copyright framework that protects consent, recognises the value of creative work and ensures innovation is built through partnership rather than appropriation. A thriving community music sector depends on a thriving creative sector.
